Fantasy Profile: Roy Helu, RB, Oakland Raiders
Roy Helu has spent his time as a running back in the NFL primarily as a pass catcher out of the backfield. In Washington last year Helu had only 40 carries for 216 yards and a touchdown. While he managed to grind out an impressive 5.4 yards a carry, his receiving statistics is where he really stands apart at his position. Helu grabbed himself 42 catches last year for 477 yards and two more trips to pay dirt. That is a whopping 11.4 yards per reception which is far and away the best for running backs last year and any running back over the last ten years. Helu has taken his hands to an evolving Oakland Raiders offense in 2015. Helu is a fantasy wild card this year since we do not know how exactly Oakland intends to use him. Latavius Murray should see the most time on the field and the underwhelming Trent Richardson will look for carries as well. All that aside, Helu should be the primary third down back and brought in on obvious passing situations. Helu doesn’t offer a lot of upside in standard leagues but should be considered as a late round target in your point per reception leagues.
