Shane Stewart kicks into a top five finish at Knoxville

It was announced on July 14th that Shane Stewart would partner with Jeff Gordon’s Kick it for Children’s Cancer foundation at this week’s Knoxville Nationals.

Stewart would run a gold, red accented car that resembles a paint scheme that Gordon ran when he raced Sprint Cars. The car also featured the Kick It logo on the side of the car to support Gordon’s foundation.

The team raised $112,000 this week for the Kick It for Children’s Cancer Foundation.

“It’s always special to have the Kick It logo on the side of the hood and to represent the organization that is behind Jeff Gordon,” Stewart said.

Stewart certainly stepped up when needed. During his qualifying day – Wednesday – he climbed through the feature and beat out Donny Schatz to win and solidify his starting spot in the Nationals Main Event.

“To have him here and to be able to win on Wednesday with him in the house, was just really special,” Stewart said.

Stewart weaved his way through the field in the main event, starting 12th he worked his way up to 3rd in an effort to try to stop Donny Schatz’ streak of four straight Nationals wins.

Stewart still salvaged a top five finish for the Kick It foundation, taking fourth place and a good chunk of change.

The series continues to run on Tuesday when they go to Junction City.
