Fantasy Profile: Maxx Williams, TE, Baltimore Ravens
Aside from a few notable exceptions (Rob Gronkowski, Aaron Hernandez and Jeremy Shockey), very few rookie tight ends ever make a fantasy worthy impact in their first year in the NFL. Maxx Williams of the Baltimore Ravens has a chance to join that elite group due to his exceptional athletic ability and the opportunities for playing time that he should see.
A star at the University of Minnesota, Williams averaged 16.2 yards per reception and had 13 touchdowns in his two seasons as a Golden Gopher. More of a modern pass catcher than a typical blocking tight end, depending on the needs of the Baltimore offense, Williams could be stymied by Crocket Gillmore during early downs; but I have a feeling that Offensive Coordinator Marc Trestman is going to find a way to get Williams involved early in the season. Once he gets comfortable he could become a great safety valve for quarterback Joe Flacco, and put up some big fantasy numbers. His size and athletic ability also makes him a natural red-zone target.
