The Hungarian Grand Prix
2015 HUNGARIAN GRAND PRIX WILLIAMS REVIEW
The Williams F1 team seemed a far cry from their performance displayed at Silverstone, qualifying towards the back end of the top ten and a race that ultimately proved fruitless.
No. 77 Valtteri Bottas
Form: DNS/5/6/4/4/14/3/5/5/13
Bottas had a decent start from sixth on the grid and was holding fourth place for the majority of the early part of the race. The Finn couldn’t keep hold of third placed Rosberg however and was just in front of Hulkenberg, narrowly missing being taken out by the German. After the safety car, he was behind Hamilton and in a battle with the Englishman, Kvyat and Verstappen. It was here that Bottas went for the undercut on Hamilton, only to find Verstappen’s front wing slicing through his rear right tyre. He suffered an instant puncture, was forced to pit and limped home to a lowly 13th position.
No. 19 Felipe Massa
Form: 4/6/5/10/6/15/6/3/4/12
Even before the race had truly begun Massa was in hot water. After stopping short in his grid box after the formation lap, the race directors were forced to abort the start and a second formation lap was needed. Massa subsequently received a 5 second time penalty to be served during his first pit stop. Then a poor start saw him slip form eighth to ninth battling with an angry Hamilton. Once Hamilton got through, it was a case of limping home for the Brazilian.
A poor day for the British team as whatever inroads they thought they had made on Ferrari and Mercedes, seemed to have vanished.
