Four to Follow: Stories for NASCAR at New Hampshire Motor Speedway

When you think of NASCAR, you think of racing on the historic racetracks of the south. But if you ask any racing fan that lives in New England, there is only one track for them, and that’s when there’s NASCAR at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

Here are your four to follow at New Hampshire this weekend:

Crunching the Numbers

When you look at the stats and the history at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, the racetrack does not show much of a pattern in its hands. While the track often sees a variety of winners, with long stretches in its history of no repeat winners, consistency also does not spell victory. The keys to victory this weekend – track position, good pit stops, and a little bit of luck.

Passing the Buck

One of the premiums that all drivers need when racing at New Hampshire Motor Speedway is track position. And if you don’t track position, sometimes you have to make some. Just be careful drivers, you will pay the price if you get stuck battling with lapped down traffic, just ask Joey Logano and Morgan Shepherd.

Testing for the Future

While no track can claim to be the same length as New Hampshire, many teams use the track as a testing ground for future races, including next weekend at Indianapolis. Both the Xfinity Series and Sprint Cup Series will be there next weekend, so look for them to take advantage of track time and get ready for the brickyard.

The Chase Is On

In addition to Indy coming up for the Cup cars, New Hampshire has their second race of the season as the second race of the Chase for the Sprint Cup. And while teams who are locked into the Chase will prepare for their return trip in September, those still looking to secure a spot in the championship hunt may use Sunday as a barometer of their hopes of getting in.

The NASCAR Xfinity Series kicks off the race weekend at NHMS on Saturday with their race, which you can see on NBCSN. Then tune in for the Sprint Cup Series in the 5 Hour Energy 301 on NBCSN on Sunday afternoon.
