Welcome to the 5-25-15 Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks. There are a lot of day games due to the Memorial Day holiday, so playing an early slate can work. Full slate lineups are going to be tough to stomach today; but if you play just the late slate, keep an eye on lineups and weather as the day progresses, there may be some guys on this list who are out today. The values below are based off of FanDuel.
5-25-15 Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks
Pitcher
Brett Anderson, SP, Los Angeles Dodgers, $6,700– Jake Odorizzi ($8600) and Carlos Martinez ($8400) look like solid options today, but at the price point I think Brett Anderson is the best choice for value today. Anderson draws a home start against the Braves who are 26th in the majors in wOBA against lefties, and Anderson has struck 15 hitters over his past two starts. The chances at a Win are high as well, with rookie Williams Perez starting for the Braves.
Catcher
Russell Martin, C, Toronto Blue Jays, $3,300 – My plan is to attack starter Hector Noesi of the White Sox with a Blue Jays stack, first place to start is Russell Martin at catcher who has been one of the best fantasy catchers in the majors all year, averaging 3.0 Fantasy Points per Game.
First Base
Edwin Encarnacion, 1B, Toronto Blue Jays, $4,200– Encarnacion is on a tear right now with three home runs and seven RBI in his past four games. Adrian Gonzalez ($3900) seems like a decent alternative, but I am going with Encarnacion in Rogers Centre.
Second Base
Dee Gordon, 2B, Florida Marlins $3,700– Charlie Morton is coming off of a Disabled List stint and allows hitters to make a lot of contact (7.2 K/9), while allowing a decent amount of walks (3.3 BB/9). Francisco Cervelli is a solid defensive catcher, but Dee Gordon can run against anyone; I think the matchup with Morton will result in a few on base opportunities and stolen base chances.
Third Base
Josh Donaldson, 3B, Toronto Blue Jays, $3,800– Donaldson has been a consistent producer all season with a .364 average, six home runs and 16 RBI in his home games this season. Todd Frazier ($3700) looks like a decent alternative in his home game versus Eddie Butler of the Rockies.
Shortstop
Ian Desmond, SS, Washington Nationals, $3,100– Desmond has begun to heat up over the past two weeks and will be facing left handed starter Tsuyoshi Wada in Wrigley Field today. There is a chance of rain in Chicago, but if the game goes off, the forecast is for 20+ MPH winds headed out to dead centerfield; there will likely been some runs scored in this game.
Outfield
Dexter Fowler, OF, Chicago Cubs, $3,800– Playing for the Wrigley Field wind factor, Fowler will be batting leadoff against Tanner Roark who will likely be on a pitch count. The Nationals bullpen will be tested early in this game, but Fowler is a switch hitter, so he draws favorable plate side matchups all day.
Joc Pederson, OF, Los Angeles Dodgers, $3,700– Braves starter Williams Perez is making only his second start of the year, but his numbers in a small sample size are quite ugly (6.14 ERA, 1.91 WHIP). Pederson is having a breakout season and had two more home runs this weekend against the Padres.
Chris Colabello, OF, Toronto Blue Jays, $2,700– Colabello gets the final nod as my fourth Blue Jays choice for the lineup. It is a righty-versus-righty matchup, but with Jose Bautista on the mend, I think the hot bat of Colabello will keep him in the lineup.
