THE BEST AROUND
Never one to let the opportunity for a marquee match pass him by, Dario Cueto booked Alberto El Patron vs. Johnny Mundo with the winner facing Hernandez next week for the number one contender spot. If I were Hernandez I wouldn’t be too happy, after having beaten Cage and King Cuerno, just to have to face another opponent to prove his worth as number one contender to the Lucha Underground Championship. Although, never let it be said that El Jefe doesn’t know how to draw out an angle for maximum potential.
SON OF HAVOC/ANGELICO VS. MR. CISCO/CORTEZ CASTRO
Having a regular two on two tag match is a great way to keep this feud fresh while Ivelisse heals. The baddest bitch in the building was sporting a cast on her leg this week, but that didn’t stop her from shouting orders to her teammates. Angelico and Havoc controlled the majority of the match doing what they do best, Angelico throwing knees and kicks at The Crew, while Son of Havoc threw himself at The Crew, including Bael which was just the distraction Castro and Cisco needed to get the win.
Edge: Most of this match seemed fairly academic. Despite the friction within the team of Angelico and Son of Havoc, they managed to stay on the offense throughout most of the match. The Crew got a few shots in but it wasn’t until they capitalized on the distraction from Bael that they managed to squeak by. After the “motivational” speech from Dario Cueto last week The Crew should have been hungry and vicious, instead they barely got past a team that can’t even get along. The edge goes to the champs because even through their dysfunction, they can outwrestle The Crew.
DAWN OF THE GOLDEN WARRIOR
Delavar Daivari was in Dario Cueto’s office sharing a drink with El Jefe, who asked why Daivari would put his body on the line in The Temple. Daivari’s answer was simple, he likes to inflict violence. Cueto decided to give him the opportunity to do just that, in a match against Texano.
KONNAN THE PEACEKEEPER
Things got a little heated in the locker room when Prince Puma and Hernandez met face to face. Konnan stating that it looked like Hernandez was gunning for Puma last week. Hernandez assured Konnan that he wants Puma to hold onto the Lucha Underground Championship so he can be the one to take it from him. The conversation might have gotten more heated had Dario Cueto, who seems to be everywhere in the Temple, broke the news to Hernandez about his having to re-earn his number one contender shot. El Jefe also mentioned that Hernandez and Puma should try to stay on the same page, since they would be facing King Cuerno and Cage later in the evening.
DELAVAR DAIVARI VS. TEXANO
Ring announcer Melissa Santos was barely able to get out of harm’s way as Texano rushed the ring, wanting to finally get a piece of the man who cost Texano’s team a spot in the Trios tournament finals. The match itself was a non-point as Texano got himself disqualified mere seconds into the brawl by shoving the referee across the ring. That, however, gave Daivari a chance to hit Texano with a microphone and get out of harm’s way himself.
Edge: This one’s a draw. While technically Daivari won by disqualification, the match never really got going and moving forward both men have heat with one another. It goes without saying, but this feud is far from over.
PRINCE PUMA/HERNANDEZ VS. CAGE/KING CUERNO
Dysfunction is the order of the day on Lucha Underground this week. Puma and Hernandez had some real trouble getting out of the gate, each often stepping on the other’s toes. There were some shining moments when the two worked together, and meshed well, but all that came to a screeching halt when Hernandez pulled Prince Puma into the path of King Cuerno’s suicide dive. Hernandez followed that up with a boot to his tag partner’s face and a crucifix powerbomb into the ring apron. After that it wasn’t hard for the hunter and the machine to pick up the victory.
Edge: Cage and King Cuerno get the edge, if for no other reason, because they are able to co-exist. It feels like the two may have lost a step since it wasn’t long ago that each were in the Lucha Underground title hunt and now are a few steps behind. This win however, might be the difference maker that keeps them relevant. After all, any win against the Champion is a feather in your cap.
LOTUS BLOSSOMS
Black Lotus wants to leave her training, wants to get her revenge on the monster that killed her parents, but El Dragon Azteca attempts to be the voice of reason only to be met with defiance. He then tells Lotus that if she can take him down, he will let her leave. Of course, Azteca defends himself with ease and Lotus begrudgingly stays. The student has much more to learn.

ALBERTO EL PATRON VS. JOHNNY MUNDO
A match that has been teased since Alberto El Patron debuted in Lucha Underground three months ago and it did not disappoint. El Patron commanded some of the early offense but Mundo came back strong with both men surviving the other’s signature moves in some of the closest near falls I’ve ever seen in Lucha Underground. As the match wore on the pace actualy quickened with each man wanting the coveted victory. Just as Johnny evaded one kick, he was struck with another that proved to be too much.
Edge: Alberto El Patron. It was a very back and forth match and could have gone either way, but at the end of the day, when you win a match that gets you that much closer to the Lucha Underground Championship, that gives you the edge. The question for Johnny Mundo is, where does he go from here? Much like King Cuerno and Cage, Mundo has flirted with title aspirations but has yet to reach that pinnacle. Unlike Cuerno and Cage, Mundo came up short on this occasion, can he bounce back?
1 DOWN, 999 TO GO
The man of a thousand deaths will return to Lucha Underground. As the show came to a close Catrina was seen near the all too familiar casket, still marred by the damage of the Grave Consequences match between Mil Muertes and Fenix. Catrina opened the casket, and beckoned her one time companion to rise again. As Muertes’ eyes opened we’re left wondering, could this have been Catrina’s plan all along? Have Muertes taste the bitterest of defeat in order to rise stronger than before. Only time will tell.
