2015 Bahrain Grand Prix McLaren Review: No Points but Notable Progress

It was a pretty tricky weekend for McLaren at the Bahrain Grand Prix. One car seemed to work fine, and appeared quite rapid when it was running, whilst the other managed just a handful of laps all weekend. One driver recorded his best result of the season, but the other one may as well have just stayed at home.

2015 Bahrain Grand Prix McLaren Review

No. 14 Fernando Alonso
Grid: P14
Race: P11

It does sound odd to talk about Fernando Alonso surprising people by not being knocked out in Q1, but that’s what happened on Saturday. Eventually, he managed to qualify his car in 14th and managed to work his way through to 11th by the end of the race, ahead of both Saubers. He also looked strong in the race pace department, as he even looked quicker than the front-running cars by the finish. He has dubbed this as the final race where McLaren will not be looking for points.

No. 22 Jenson Button
Grid: P20
Race: DNS

Button would have been far better off staying at home as oppose to heading to Bahrain. His car did virtually zero running on Friday, and managed about eight corners in qualifying before stopping. His car did not make the grid at all on race day, and resorted to commentating on the race via social media.
