Toronto FC midfielder Michael Bradley was named to United States Head Coach Jürgen Klinsmann’s 22-man roster for the upcoming friendly match against Mexico on Wednesday, April 15 at Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.
Toronto FC captain Michael Bradley called up to USMNT
Bradley, 27, has appeared and started in three matches for Toronto FC this season, and was also named to the MLS Team of the Week for Week one. Bradley has earned 95 caps for the United States national team and has scored 13 goals for his country. For the first time in his U.S. national team career, he captained the U.S. in their last two matches against Denmark on Wednesday, March 25 and Switzerland on Tuesday, March 31.
Michael Bradley is likely to miss Toronto’s crucial match against FC Dallas three days after the USMNT friendly. Toronto will be missing their captain for the second time this season. FC Dallas sit comfortably in second place in the Western Conference, but will be looking to make a statement after being shocked by the Colorado Rapids. The Texas based side took a 4-0 thrashing in their last match.
In another notable move, striker Jozy Altidore was not called up to Jürgen Klinsmann’s roster for the match against Mexico. Speculation is that head coach Klinsmann may consider Altidore a lock on the upcoming Gold Cup roster, hence leaving him off the roster to experiment with other individuals. This indicates that Toronto will have their designated player and star striker available for selection in the match against Dallas. In a season where playoffs are expected for Toronto, coach Greg Vanney will welcome the move, as his team have taken just three points from a possible 12.
Toronto will hope to get a result at the Toyota Stadium on April 18th, when they take on FC Dallas. They will be with two of three of their designated players, as Sebastian Giovinco and Jozy Altidore will definitely feature, barring injury.
