Formula E Long Beach Preview

Formula E is back and hits the streets of Long Beach, USA this Saturday to join a long list of historic racing events that have occurred there. The race marks the half-way point of the 2014-15 Formula E season.

Oddly enough, this weekend will see the exact same driver line-up as the last race, with no changes in personnel (for once). Yes, no changes at all, although Aguri driver Antonio Felix da Costa tried to pull a ‘banterish’ April fools joke by claiming he was injured and would not race.

Meanwhile, Mahindra also got in on the April fools action by announcing that they were going to build a solar powered car for season two. In all honesty, I believed this prank and actually thought it was a good idea: I liked the gold livery too.

In FanBoost news, Nelson Piquet Jr. currently resides at the top with Sam Bird and Jean-Eric Vergne close behind in second and third.  There is still time to get your vote in for the Formula E FanBoost by visiting HERE.

Nevertheless, the track Long Beach presented is sure to be a cracker with long straights, quick chicanes, 90 degree corners and a particular heavy breaking zone into a hairpin likely to spice up the action this weekend.   It is a shortened version of the famous Long Beach track that has hosted so many great races in a variety of series over the year.

E.dams-Renault driver Nicolas Prost took the Formula E points lead on March 14th in Miami, and looks to increase his lead in this weekend’s race. Its a tight field though with Lucas DiGrassi just seven points back.  Sam Bird (15), Piquet Jr. (18), Sebastian Buemi (24) sit in third, fourth, and fifth respectively.
