Tyler Kennedy Traded to Islanders

In another NHL Trade Deadline Deal, the San Jose Sharks have traded 28-year-old Tyler Kennedy to the New York Islanders for a conditional 3rd-round/7th-round draft pick.

The 5’11”, 185-pound winger has played a total of 464 NHL games, scoring 84 goals and adding 110 assists.  This season the 28-year-old has four goals and five assists for nine points in 25 games for the Sharks.  He brings some playoff experience to a young Islanders team that is currently sitting in first place in the NHL Metropolitan Division.  Garth Snow is hoping that Kennedy’s grit, penalty killing ability and leadership will help the Islanders down the stretch and into the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

A fourth-round pick of the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2004, Kennedy was traded to San Jose for a 2nd-round pick at the 2013 draft. He has four goals and five assists in 25 games this season and will be a free agent this summer.

The Islanders were relatively quiet at the deadline, acquiring Kennedy, and backup goaltender Michal Neuvirth for the NHL roster, and Dustin Jeffrey for the AHL squad.

“I think there is a lot of good chemistry in that locker room and we didn’t want to deplete too many players out of there,” Snow told reporters in a press conference following the 3:00pm deadline. “We made the moves we made today, and we’re happy with where we stand.”

About Lindsay Higgins

Lindsay got hooked on football after attending an Indianapolis Colts pre-season game in 2005. (See, pre-season isn't completely useless). The daughter of two Minnesota alums, she spends September through March following the Gophers' football and hockey teams as closely as possible from Connecticut, along with the New York Giants and Montreal Canadiens. She's also a winger on a local women's hockey team, and has a foster elephant in Kenya named Esampu.
