FANTASY CBB 3-2-15

I’ve been under the weather the past few days, and have been unable to post articles because of it. When being sick medication can be your best friend. I ran into a situation this weekend where a decision had to be made. I always keep Advil Cold and Sinus in the house, but it’s really for my family, as that product never works well for me. I could either take the Advil’s and gradually get better or go to the store and pay for Mucinex which works wonders for me. Why pay for Mucinex when I have Advil already? The answer is because it works (for me at least). On short slates like tonight you want to pay for what works, and then just build around that. People get too crazy with the idea of “well I know I need the high priced safe players, but hate the rest of my lineup with them in it.” Buy the Mucinex because its safe and proven and fill the gaps with Advil Cold and Sinus.

Top High Priced Plays

Oliver Hanlan -Guard Boston College. Price 9300

Don’t think this comes as much surprise. For tonight’s slate you can call Hanlan Mr. Mucinex. It doesn’t get much safer than Hanlan on a slate like this with his match-up. His match-up against Virginia Tech is arguably the best he’s had in a month. While being primarily a scorer, he can still contribute a bit in rebounds and assists. No one person on tech can stop him one-on-one and with an high extremely high usage rate, you can expect a nice showing from him here. He is simply too good of a scorer and Tech is not a threat on the defensive end at all. The pace on this game could be better, but Hanlan will have a strong showing.

Jameel McKay -Forward Iowa State. Price 8000

Another nice rule to follow on short slate’s is paying up for the best player on the team projected the most points. This is by no means a golden rule as there as exceptions, but for the most part it’s true. Now you can argue that McKay is not the best player on Iowa State, but lately he certainly has been. Niang has taken a back seat as McKay has been one of the better pick and roll forwards over the past few weeks in college basketball. He has also been a force on the glass recording no less than seven rebounds in his last eight games. Let’s not forget his block and steal upside. It will be tough to fade McKay tonight, and if you leave Hanlan off your roster McKay should be your starting point.

Top Mid Priced Plays

Anthony Gill -Forward Virginia. Price 6600

Syracuse’s zone will have trouble tonight with the precision plays Virginia runs. While Virginia may not score a lot of points, they’re one of the most efficient teams in the country on a per possession basis. Gill is one of the most consistent options Virginia has in it’s offense. While Brogdon may take the most shots, I like Gill in this spot since he is cheaper and safer.

Adam Smith -Guard Virginia Tech. Price 5800

Virginia Tech is projected to win tonight against Boston College. Someone on this team will have a good game tonight, and I think Smith has the best chance. You can argue for Justin Bibbs, but since being taken out of the starting lineup a few games back, he hasn’t been as consistent. Smith gets a ton of court time and has a good usage rate in this offense. If he can pick up a few assists and boards I feel he’ll clear value easily.

Top Low Priced Plays

Dennis Clifford -Forward Boston College. Price 5000

When two teams that are terrible on the glass, something has to give right? I think that something or someone will be Dennis Clifford. Clifford is a big man who could really have his way with the small front-court of Virginia Tech. Foul trouble is always a potential problem with him, but his price is nice and the match-up doesn’t get much better.

London Perrantes -Guard Virginia. Price 4500

Perrantes at minimum price Fanduel? Obviously Perrantes is not a box score stuffer, but to ask for 17.5 fantasy points is by no means a stretch for him. Word is circulating that he actually re-broke his nose in the previous game, but still played through it and performed well. He is somewhat of a minutes eater, but at this price, he is tough to avoid. Again, he does not have a high ceiling, but the high floor is there.
