After a night of upsets at UFC Fight Night 61, Lastwordonsports MMA has come up with a line of matches to follow up with this exciting event that took place in Porto Alegre, Brazil.
Frank Mir vs. Ben Rothwell: Mir rebounded from a four-fight losing streak to knock out Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva in just under two minutes. Rothwell would be an exciting match for Frank Mir as he is coming off an upset knockout of Alistair Overeem and is riding a wave of confidence like never before. Both are hard hitters, but Mir’s lethal ground-game would be an excellent test for Rothwell.
Michael Johnson vs. Benson Henderson: Johnson is finally healthy again and just came off of the biggest win of his career by upsetting #6 ranked Edson Barboza. Henderson would be an excellent test for the surging Johnson because the former champion represents the absolute elite of the UFC Lightweight division. Johnson would need that type of opponent to eventually become a title challenger.
Sam Alvey vs. Luke Barnatt/Clint Hester Winner: “Smiling” Sam Alvey shocked Brazil with his upset against Cezar Ferreira. Alvey may not come off as the most athletic middleweight in the world, but if he hits somebody clean, they are sure go down to the mat. The Barnatt/Hester winner would provide a legitimate challenge for Alvey to test his stand-up against an opponent that is very game in the Middleweight division.
Adriano Martins vs. Myles Jury: Martins just came off a close decision over #14 ranked Rustam Khabilov in the stacked UFC Lightweight division. One things that Martins shares with Jury is that their only loss in the the UFC came to #3 ranked Donald Cerrone. Jury wants to get back the momentum that he once had in the UFC and Martins is just the type of fighter to see where he is at in the division. Both fighters are very well-rounded and this could make for an exciting battle.
Marion Renau vs. Bethe Correia: Renau showed that she is a dual threat by submitting Jessica Andrade via triangle choke. Correia has been a bit over-selective and is hoping for a shot at Rousey, but there are fighters like Renau that are willing to fight on short notice and Correia needs to stay relevant in the ever-growing Women’s Bantamweight division.
Matt Dwyer vs. Brandon Thatch: Dwyer is coming off of a win over William Macario that was possibly the best Superman punch knockout that has ever been seen in the UFC Octagon. An exciting opponent like Thatch would be a great test for Dwyer and Thatch has the chance to get back on his feet after he lost to former champion Benson Henderson.
