Center Kendrick Perkins has reportedly signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers, just days after being traded by Oklahoma City to the Utah Jazz. Perkins was bought out by the Jazz without ever playing a game. The big man was a part of big NBA Trade Deadline move, one that involved five players and three teams. Perkins joins an already strong roster with the Cavaliers, and heading into the final stretch of the season will add much needed toughness to the team. Perkins will add a much stronger bench presence for the Cavaliers. His role will see him playing important minutes when fellow center Timofey Mozgov is off the court.
It has been reported that LeBron James directly recruited Perkins. James, the leader of the Cavaliers, is always looking to make his team stronger, working almost as an on court general manager. Perkins was sought after by a few NBA teams, including the Bulls and the Spurs, but clearly the lure of playing with LeBron James and company and trying to compete for an NBA championship was too much for him to pass up.
Perkins is clearly looking forward to playing for the Cavaliers, as the big man tweeted this earlier. “I’m on my way”
Perkins started over 200 games with the Oklahoma City Thunder, after joining the team in 2011. Perkins is a 12-year NBA veteran, and that veteran presence should be invaluable in the Cavaliers locker room through their playoff run.
Perkins has only signed for the remainder of the season and will be an unrestricted free agent in the summer.
