Passion and Dedication: Interview with Kelly Nash

LWOS' Mike Brockenshire interviews Fox Sports personality Kelly Nash. How did she get involved in the Tampa Sports market? Who inspired her?

After a long hiatus I am back doing what I love the most: writing about sports! This article is very special to me. Why is that do you ask? It’s because I get to talk with well-known sports personalities and find out why they love their jobs so much. In one of my earlier articles I mentioned that I never thought that I would be able to talk with some of these folks. When this dream turned into a reality, the only feeling I felt was blessed! How can someone in the field of sports not feel blessed? They get to talk about and analyze one of the best fields ever. In this article, I will interview Fox Sports personality Kelly Nash. I’m going to find out what makes her tick. How did she get involved in the Tampa Sports market? Who inspired her to get into sports reporting? I will be asking her many other burning and important questions young adults and kids who are pursuing sports entertainment jobs want to know.

Kelly Nash

MB: Kelly, thanks for letting me taking a few minutes of your time today!
KN: No, thank you for caring about me so much that you wanted to write something on me. It’s flattering.

MB: How did it feel to be the only one of your siblings to have an immense passion for sports?
KN: I’ve never really thought about that before. We each had our own little niche of things we were drawn to. It’s wild how two people can make multiple babies and they each come out so differently, with such different loves. You’ve left me speechless on an answer to this one. I’ll need some more time [laughs].

MB: When you were at Clemson University what drove you to get your second Masters degree?
KN: Great question. I was working for the Clemson baseball team throughout undergrad as the scoreboard operator. When it came time to graduate, Clemson’s Sports Information Department offered me a full-ride graduate assistantship if I would cover the baseball, soccer, and track and field teams as a writer and operator of GameTracker, the live stats feed.

MB: Who is the most important player in the Super Bowl for each team? Who will win, and why?
KN: This Super Bowl is a little bit unique in that it will be dominated by defensive backs. Making each team’s wide receivers especially important X-factors. I’m picking the Seahawks in this one. But I wouldn’t bet on it [laughs].

MB: Why do you feel that it’s important to interact with your followers on social media?
KN: I am technically employed by FOX Sports FL. But I have a job because of the fans. My job is to relay information from the teams to the fans. And those fans deserve a voice and deserve to connect with the middleman, per say.

MB: What’s your gut feeling on Deflategate?
KN: Bill Nye the Science Guy was quick to debunk Bill Belichick’s weather theory, and well, that’s all I need to know [laughs].

MB: How will this tarnish Bill Belicheck’s legacy?
KN: Essentially, a legacy is how you are remembered. And these rule-bending incidents keep popping up. It’s a trend. People remember trends. Generations remember trends.

MB: The last question that I have for you is, how did it feel when you got the phone call from Fox Sports offering you the job?
KN: I screamed. Literally. On the phone. Top 10 moment of my life. FOX Sports Florida took a chance on me. My first TV gig. I had dreamt about that moment for so long. Forever grateful.

MB: Before you go, could you let my readers know what your Twitter handle is?
KN: @KellyNash Thank you, Mike. And whoever reads this [laughs].

Thank you, Kelly Nash, for taking the time to speak with me.
