FANTASY PROFILE: OMAR INFANTE, 2B, KANSAS CITY ROYALS
LWOS Ranking 25, Captain’s Value: $5.29
2014 was the first season that Omar Infante played in Kansas City after signing a 4 year contract. While the Royals ended up having a successful season, the same could not be said about Infante. While he did set a career high in RBI (66), his batting average (.252) was his lowest since 2005 and his overall production was well below average as his wRC+ came in at 76.
It is not a good sign that his numbers (with the exception of RBI) fell off especially since he is well into his thirties. While his value is not very high, there are at least some indicators that 2015 may not be as bad. In 2014, his BABIP was 31 points below his career total and his HR/FB rate of 3.3% was below his 5% career total. If these numbers bounce back towards his career totals, double digit power and a batting average in the .280-.285 would be within reason.
