Athleticism: B-
Can be either the first one or the last one moving off the ball. Has a very wide range of movement on the field and is capable of making plays to the sideline. Intriguing athletic tools as an offensive linemen that have yet to be tapped into. A fluid mover when he doesn’t appear to be thinking about what he is doing.
Pass Blocking: D
Struggles to keep his man in front of him and is slow to react to defenders. Does not lock out or play with aggressive hands. Can give ground in pass pro but has the ability to reset his anchor. Sieve-like at right tackle and frequently yielded pressure to his quarterback. Stressed by speed and gives the corner too easily. Can be knocked clean off his feet versus edge rushers. Improved over the course of the 2014 season, but still a way off from being able to hold up in the NFL.
Run Blocking: A
Very athletic on the move and at the second level, fitting very well on linebackers. Gets to the perimeter on screens. Shows power to turn and seal defenders. Very good job of sustaining run blocks and runs his feet on contact. Clearly takes pride in this area of his game. Leans on defenders when he gets them to the ground
Technique: C-
Plays too high off the snap. Looks robotic in his movements and appears to need more time to get comfortable to playing the position. Too often seems to be thinking rather than doing naturally. Footwork is much better as a run blocker than in pass pro. Winds up on the ground too often and needs to keep a more balanced base.
Intangibles: C+
Will look to bury a defender through the echo of the whistle when he can, but too often seems content to not be blocking anybody or to get beat in pass protection. A bit of a loafer once he finishes his first assignment. Flashes nastiness as a run blocker. Only two years of experience on the offensive line and clearly needs more experience and coaching.
Red Flags: Raw Talent, Project
Bottom Line: T.J. Clemmings is reminiscent of Greg Robinson in the fact that he is an excellent run blocker, but needs work in pass protection, and might be more ideally suited for guard in the NFL. As of now, Clemmings looks to be a mid-round prospect, with the tools to develop into an upper round player with the right coaching and dedication on his part. Most likely to find a home in a zone blocking offense.
Comparison: Ben Ijalana
Grade: 8.1 (3rd Round)
