Wow, you miss a week, then you miss alot. Lots happened in the CFL during my week off, so here I go reviewing the highlights and lowlights.
Touchdown Atlantic 2 was another success both on and off the field. Even though the game apparently was not sold out, it looked like the near capacity crowd in Moncton was having a great time. On the field, they were entertained with the highest scoring CFL game this season as my Ticats beat Calgary 55-36. The game was highlighted by Marcus Thigpen’s 3 TD day, including one returned 115 yards on a wide field goal attempt.
C’mon CFL, lets jump on this momentum. Let’s get Ottawa back, and then expand out east. Talking about a CFL team in the Maritimes has been ongoing for 40 years. But talk is cheap. Do it right!!!! Get strong ownership for both a team in Ottawa and out east, and a stadium in the Maritimes. Let’s truly make this league more Canadian then it already is from coast to coast.
Just saying, but after watching Friday’s Alouette- Bomber game, does any CFL official know what pass interference is, or do they just look to the players to make that call for them?
It was great seeing 50,000 + packed into newly renovated BC Place Friday night. The stadium looks great, along with the new scoreboard, and newly retracted roof. I can’t wait to get out there to see a game. The hometown Lions were successful in beating the Eskimos sending the fans home happy. Just remember alittle over 10 years ago, the BC Lions were close to folding. Hopefully this new stadium and the team playing better than at the start of the season will help boost attendance and BC’s pride in the team.
Two great feel good stories, lead me now to an ongoing negative issue. Although the argos are 3-10, only over 21,000 came out to see them lose Saturday night to their arch-rivals, my Hamilton Tiger Cats. About 2000 of those fans made the trip down the QEW from Hamilton, myself included. The argos had opportunities to get back in the game, but failed to capitalize and also shot themselves in the foot.
With Hamilton up 7-3, and deep in Toronto territory, the argos stop the Cats on second down, and it looks like they will have to attempt a field goal. But argo lineman Ricky Foley was flagged 15 yards for roughing the Ticats QB Kevin Glenn. The very next play, Chris Williams scored a Cats TD. Foley getting ejected later in the game, also allowed the Cats to score their final TD by Quinton Porter and cement the loss for the Argos. With wide open drops by Chad Owens, Jim Barker electing to kick on 3 & 1, leading to the Ticats 1st TD by Terry Grant and Shall giving his endzone interception back to Kevin Glenn, the argos blew this game for themselves. The final score was 27-12 for Hamilton. With Barker dressing only 41 of 42 players because the argos were short a Canadian, not only would I be questioning the argo player efforts, but the argo coaching efforts too. Good on the 2000 Hamilton fans for starting Osk-E-Wee and argos suck chants throughout the game to try and liven up a very quiet atmosphere.
