Jon Rahm Continues Golden Year as Masters Looms

John Rahm with trophy at The Genesis Invitational

Jon Rahm continued his remarkable 2023 season to date with a 2-shot victory at the PGA Tours Genesis Invitational, at the Riviera Club in California, a win that moved him back to World Number One.

The Spanish sensation has had a stellar year so far, winning both January’s Sentry Tournament of Champions and American Express Desert Classic, and has finished in the Top 10 of his last 10 tournaments as he continues his career year, with one eye firmly on April’s Masters Tournament.

Form Continues at the Genesis

Rahm had led going into the final round of the Genesis Invitational but found himself behind the in-form Max Homa on the back nine of the Riviera Club, before once again digging deep to secure a two-shot victory at the Tiger Woods hosted event, with a world class chasing pack left behind in the Californian sunset.

It’s been a remarkable 12 months for the Spaniard who has often been the sane voice during the midst of golf’s internal war and has let his golf do the talking, with the world class Rahm, also playing his part on the DP World Tour, where in late November, he triumphed in the Dubai sun, at the DP Tour Championship.

Some will say that the likeable Rahm is benefitting from his open stance on LIV Golf, seemingly firmly in the PGA Tour camp, but unwilling to let the noise surrounding the upstart league affect his golf, his form has been imperious and he looks destined to be at the head of the table and gunning for more Majors to add to his 2021 US Open triumph.

Masters Looms as Rahm Leads Contenders

All eyes will now turn to preparation for the 1st Major of the year, the one that all players strive for, April’s Masters Tournament where he will no doubt go into the tournament as favourite but will also have to contend with the return of LIV Golf’s start players as they look to give their upstart tour a timely boost.

The likes of Dustin Johnson and Cameron Smith will feel they have a point to prove, whilst the likes of Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy and Patrick Cantlay will have their own eyes firmly set on the Augusta National Golf Club and its illustrious title and the opening Major of 2023.

It will no doubt be one of the most eagerly anticipated golf tournaments the professional game will ever witness and who comes out on top is anyone’s guess but there is little doubt that many will back Jon Rahm and we won’t be surprised to see his name amongst the greats that have won the game come April.
