CFL Week 14 Power Rankings – Playoff Pushes Imminent

After just three games of action last weekend here is where we stand with the CFL Week 14 Power Rankings as teams begin to prepare for late playoff pushes. With that, injuries to key players are beginning to become a factor for more and more teams.

1. Calgary Stampeders

Bo Levi Mitchell and the Calgary Stampeders put together another impressive win last weekend in Hamilton after going down early. The Stampeders defence was effective intercepting Jeremiah Masoli twice and not allowing any touchdowns from the Ti-Cats offence. Bo Levi continued to be dominant despite not having Eric Rodgers, Kamar Jorden, DaVaris Daniels, or Don Jackson in his arsenal. Calgary has a bye week now before hosting the Toronto Argonauts.

2. Edmonton Eskimos

After a week off the Edmonton Eskimos managed to stay level with the Roughriders. Mike Reilly and the Edmonton Eskimos will be looking to take sole possession of second place this Saturday in Ottawa.

3. Saskatchewan Roughriders

The Saskatchewan Roughriders suffered a tough home loss at the hands of the Ottawa Redblacks last weekend. The Riders offence continued to struggle, producing just 240 yards of total offence. Zach Collaros was intercepted twice as well. The Roughriders can only lean on their defence and special teams for so long before their offence has to get it together.

4. Hamilton Tiger-Cats

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats offence struggled against the Stampeders defence in a bad way last weekend. One positive for them is that they still managed to put up 28 points thanks to three touchdowns from their defence and special teams. Hamilton will look to draw level again with the Redblacks this weekend as they travel to B.C to face a depleted Lions team.

5. Ottawa Redblacks

Trevor Harris and the Ottawa Redblacks bounced back in a big way last weekend in Regina. As expected, when Trevor Harris is able to play well, so is the rest of his team. Harris completed nearly 80% of his passes for a pair of touchdowns and no interceptions. William Powell averaged 8.2 YPC against one of the best run defences in the CFL. Despite the impressive offence this week the Redblacks will need to show more consistency if they hope to make a run for their second Grey Cup.

6. B.C Lions

Another week and another win for the B.C Lions, but another injury for Travis Lulay as well. After Lulay was injured on his second pass attempt of the game Jonathan Jennings came in and took over. He was as mediocre as one would expect. The Lions defence is what really put this game away late in the fourth quarter with a pair of pick-sixes in the final three minutes of the game. B.C will get ready for the first leg of a home-and-home with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats as it looks like Jonathan Jennings will be their guy for the foreseeable future.

7. Winnipeg Blue Bombers

With the embarrassment of the Banjo Bowl question marks continue to swirl in Winnipeg regarding Matt Nichols and Chris Streveler. Matt Nichols has been announced as the starter for Friday’s game against the Alouettes and could be playing for his job. The Blue Bombers will be hoping to take back sole possession of fourth in the West from the B.C. Lions.

8. Montreal Alouettes

Antonio Pipkins short leash ran out after a miserable performance against the B.C Lions last weekend. Johnny Manziel will attempt to come back in and deliver his first CFL win. The Alouettes head into Winnipeg as major underdogs this weekend.

9. Toronto Argonauts

Coming off a bye week the Toronto Argonauts will be hoping to upset the Saskatchewan Roughriders at home and snap their three-game losing streak. Despite not managing to win a game on the road this season the Argos have picked up all three of their wins at BMO Field. This is a must win game for Toronto if they want to keep their playoff hopes alive.
