Former Cyclone Grant Rohach starting for Iowa Barnstormers

Grant Rohach starting

Iowa Barnstormers owner Jeff Lamberti announced in a Facebook post Wednesday Morning that former Iowa State quarterback Grant Rohach would be getting the start in Saturday’s matchup with Nebraska.

Drew Powell, who started in the team’s first five games, will be absent Saturday due to a Canadian Football League (CFL) tryout he is attending.

It has not been announced where or with what team Powell is trying out for, just that he will not be playing in this Saturday’s game.

Saturday marks the first time Rohach will start a game inside the state’s borders since his 34-0 win over Kansas in 2013, according to Cyclones.com.

However, this week, Rohach will be matched up with a tougher task, as the Barnstormers take on a Nebraska team that beat them just two short weeks ago.

After beating the defending champion Arizona Rattlers, Iowa has dropped games to the Sioux Falls Storm at home and Nebraska Danger on the road, making Saturday’s game a whole lot bigger for Iowa.

Right now, it looks as though the top four teams have separated themselves from Cedar Rapids and Green Bay, which is the number of teams that make it to the playoffs.

Iowa will be gunning for one of the two top spots, as they will get home field advantage in the two-round playoffs. The United Bowl championship game be hosted by the lowest remaining seed.

Other Transactions

The Barnstormers also signed Ken Van Heule from Champion Indoor Football’s (CIF) Omaha Beef to replace offensive lineman and captain Isame Faciane.

Van Heule played for the Barnstormers under former head coach Joe Brannen during the 2015 season. He also won a CIF Championship with the Wichita Force in 2016.
