The Nebraska Danger
During the second battle of Saturday’s Indoor Football League (IFL) semifinals, the Arizona Rattlers will take on the red-hot Nebraska Danger.
The Danger are in the midst of their fifth straight trip to the IFL playoffs, but unlike in the past the team had to fight hard to get there.
After being defeated by the Arizona Rattlers during week 15, it looked like the Danger might miss out on the playoffs.
They were 7-6 and sat a game behind the Spokane Empire, who were 8-5 at the time, with three games remaining.
However, since a 57-yard field goal by kicker Josh Gable sent the team to an overtime win against the Cedar Rapids Titans, the team is on a roll.
The Danger nearly defeated the seven-time defending champion Sioux Falls Storm, and then took down the Wichita Falls Nighthawks (12-4) after they had clinched a playoff spot.
The charge has been lead by the latest Danger quarterback Drew Powell, who has increased his completion percentage during each of the four games he has played in.
Powell threw 17-23 good for 73.9% against Wichita Falls, to help his team to the win.
Powell and company will take on the Rattlers 6th ranked passing defense in the Intense Conference Championship Saturday.
The Arizona Rattlers
The Rattlers, who moved to the IFL from the Arena Football League (AFL) last season and are on a postseason streak of their own.
Arizona has failed to miss the postseason every year since 2009, when the AFL suspended the league for a year due to a lockout. They hadn’t missed a playoff before that since 2007.
At quarterback for the Rattlers, Cody Sokol has been a marvel to watch this season. After taking the job from Darrell Monroe, Sokol has lead a team that started 1-3 to a 12-4 record.
Sokol will get the majority of the snaps on Saturday, but don’t be surprised if Monroe comes in and takes a single-digit number of them.
The winner of the game will travel on the road to face the United Conference Champion in the United Bowl.
Saturday’s game will kick off at 8:00 p.m. CT and will be streamed live on YouTube.
