The Iowa Barnstormers finished their 2017 regular season schedule Saturday after losing to the Sioux Falls Storm 45-24.
The loss dropped Iowa to 13-3.
Nevertheless, thanks to a Nebraska Danger victory over the Wichita Falls Nighthawks, the team will be going to the playoffs for the first time since 2009.
We take a look back at that season and the songs that were popular here.
Popular Songs the Last Time the Iowa Barnstormers Made Playoffs
The 2009 Iowa Barnstormers were one of the most successful Barnstormer teams that the franchise had to offer.
Lead by the likes of veteran wide receiver Tim Dodge, former Panther Tanner Varner, and later-to-be-named coaches Jason Simpson and Joe Brannen, the team finished 12-4 in the regular season.
The Climb – Miley Cyrus
The team would open their season on March 27 with a 60-38 win over the Milwaukee Iron.
Ahead of Hannah Montana: The Movie, Cyrus’ song rose to the top of the charts.
Boom Boom Pow – The Black-Eyed Peas
Three weeks later the Barnstormers were handed their first loss, a 51-38 defeat to the Tulsa Talons.
Day N’ Night – Kid Cudi
Iowa would go on to lose two more games in a row, being downed by the Quad Cities Steamwheelers and Spokane Shock.
Meanwhile, one of Kid Cudi’s most popular songs to date was sitting atop of the Billboard 100.
Sugar – Flo Rida
The Barnstormers started to hit their stride after, rattling off four straight wins, starting with a 46-41 nail-biter in Green Bay on May 8th.
Leading the 100 was Sugar by Flo Rida – a song that is now remembered for lyrics that confusingly don’t sound like they are supposed to.
I gotta feeling – Black Eyed Peas
The team would suffer their final loss of the regular season to the Green Bay Blizzard – a 71-65 OT defeat – on June 13.
They would then beat the Amarillo Dusters on June 27 on the road to start a six-game win-streak.
A lot of people will remember the next song as a popular pre-game song at some stadiums.
Playoff Time
You belong with me – Taylor Swift
The Barnstormers would clinch the Midwest Division title on July 18 by defeating the Quad Cities Steamwheelers on the road.
Who doesn’t love themself a little T-Swift?
He could be the one – Hannah Montana
A week later on July 25, Iowa played in their regular-season finale, beating the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgs 63-59.
Someone who appeared earlier on the list (kind of) makes her second appearance.
Down – Jay Sean
The Iowa Barnstormers would go on to face the Manchester Wolves in the first round, winning 70-53 at Wells Fargo Arena.
They would get to host one more playoff game, but ultimately were defeated by the Green Bay Blizzard 51-46, ending their season on August 8.
Party in the USA – Miley Cyrus and Run this Town – Jay Z
Later in the month, Cyrus found herself on the charts again, along with a Jay Z song that still gets used in sports.

What’d we miss?
We won’t finish out the entire year, but we did allow readers to give their input on songs they were listening too.
