The Iowa Barnstormers earned their franchise record tenth straight victory on Friday, beating the Salt Lake Screaming Eagles 58-36.
The Barnstormers, although only gaining 99 yards of offense, forced six turnovers in the victory over the fan-run franchise.
Iowa Barnstormers use Jamie Bender’s big game to beat Salt Lake
Jamie Bender was the Barnstormers’ golden goose on Friday, collecting five of the turnovers, four of them being interceptions.
Bender’s four picks set the Iowa Barnstormers all-time single-game record. It was formerly held by Jason Simpson and DaeJohn Love, who both had three in a game.
Bender wasn’t the only one to have a stellar game on the defensive side of the football, though.
Javicz Jones, an Indoor Football League leader in tackles, earned 16 of them in Friday’s win, bringing his season total to 138.
Jones is now averaging 9.9 tackles per game.
However, the offensive side of the game for Iowa was not near as pretty.
The Barnstormers only gained 99 yards of offense all night, but still managed to come up with a big margin of victory.
Iowa will resume their season next Friday night when they take on the Spokane Empire at Wells Fargo Arena. The game will kick off at 7:05 p.m. and will be televised by Mediacom Connections Channel 22.
