The Colorado Crush (2-6) are coming off a 77-73 upset of the Wichita Falls Nighthawks (7-2) last week, and prove to be a threat this weekend when they face the Iowa Barnstormers.
However, Iowa has no reason to worry.
Iowa Playing Best Football Headed Into Weekend
The Barnstormers are playing some of the best football Des Moines, IA has seen in years.
Iowa has won six out of its past seven games and has charged to just half a game out of the playoffs following Wichita Falls’ loss to Colorado.
“It feels great,” wide receiver Brady Roland said. we’re winning games. We’ve played in some close games, and some with bigger margins [of victory]. It feels good to have [those different] types of games under our belts coming into this week.
Part of the success is owed to former Upper Iowa Peacock, DaeJohn Love.
“I think this year he has made a lot of big plays,” Roland said.
Love leads the league in fumble recoveries and sits third in interceptions over the season.
“[From] day 1 to now, there has been amazing growth,” coach Dixie Wooten said. “Coach Coleman has taught him a lot. He understands what Coleman is teaching them, so he’s there making plays.”
However, Love says that it’s not all him.
“I honestly can’t take all the credit. It has been a collective effort. If you look at all of those plays that I have contributed in, one if not two other players on that defense at that moment had something to do with that. I have to give the credit to the defense in general.”
The Barnstormers will take the field against the Crush at 7:05 p.m. at the Wells Fargo Arena on Saturday.
