The Nebraska Danger had a very tough 2016 season. After starting 4-0 and winning six of their first eight games, they lost eight games in a row. Despite that bad season, expect them to be a dangerous team in 2017.
The Dangerous Nebraska Danger
The Danger finished the 2016 regular season with a 6-10 record. They still made the playoffs despite that. They fell to the Spokane Empire in the second round of the Indoor Football League playoffs.
In the 11 losses, three of them came to the Wichita Falls Nighthawks. The biggest loss was a 24 point loss to the Nighthawks.
Outside of that, they only lost the other eight games by an average of just 4.2 points per game. Seven of those losses came by seven points or fewer.
Not only that, but the Danger also have an impressive roster that can prove to be dangerous for the rest of the IFL.
Quarterback Jameel Sewell threw for 38 touchdowns and just three interceptions in 2016. Sewell also provided a good rushing game. He rushed for 525 yards and 20 touchdowns.
Also in the running game, Waymon James rushed for 632 yards and 20 touchdowns. He also scored two touchdowns on kickoff returns.
Dangerous Defense
The defense was also one that was a danger to opposing offenses. In a high scoring league, the Danger defense recorded 27 total sacks. Adrian Davis and Aronde Stanton finished tied with six sacks.
They also recorded 21 interceptions. The team lead in that category belonged to Harcourt Farqurharson, who intercepted six passes.
New Challenges Lie Ahead
The Danger kick off their season on Feb. 16 when they play the Salt Lake Screaming Eagles. The Screaming Eagles will be playing their first game in franchise history when they host the Danger.
Two of the next three games will be home games against the Nighthawks and Storm. Both of those teams were able to get the best of Nebraska in the biggest way, blowing them out by almost 20 points in their meetings.
April 7 brings another challenge for the Danger. They will host the Arizona Rattlers for the first time. Arizona is coming off a season in which they lost the ArenaBowl. They left the Arena Football League to join the Indoor Football League last offseason.
Over the last several years, the Rattlers have been a dominant football team. No one knows if they can continue that success in the IFL, but the Danger will have a lot on their hands when these two teams meet.
There may be challenges ahead for the Danger, but they’ve still shown that they can compete with almost any team and could easily beat almost anyone.
The IFL season kicks off on Feb. 16 with the Danger traveling to Salt Lake, UT to take on the Screaming Eagles. The season runs through June 17. Playoffs begin the first week of July and end with the United Bowl the third week of July.
The 2017 IFL season will feature 10 teams. The Screaming Eagles and Rattlers are the two newest teams that join the league. Both the Screaming Eagles and Colorado Crush will be run by Project FANchise. Fans will be calling the plays that both teams will run.
