Bloomington Edge Enter 2017 with Revenge Trip in Mind
As Champions Indoor Football enters their third season of play, the Bloomington Edge will enter the new year on a revenge trip.
The Edge finished the 2016 season with a 7-5 record. After beating the Sioux City Bandits in the first round of the playoffs they faced a tall task in the Wichita Force, who came into the game on a six-game win streak. Wichita escaped with a 51-50 win, and eventually won the CIF Championship.
In 2017, the Edge will return the third-leading passer in the CIF in Caleb Holbrook.
Holbrook, a second-year player out of Panhandle State, threw for 2,359 yards and 43 touchdowns last season. He was also the center of Bloomington’s run game.
He lead the team with 304 yards rushing and 11 touchdowns. It might be unusual for a quarterback to lead the team in both passing and rushing, but Bloomington is content with it. The team re-signed running back Darrelynn Dunn, who finished the season with 301 yards and 12 touchdowns.
The Edge will also try to improve its offense as they have added two veteran wide receivers in Marcus Bennett and Greg Betterson. Betterson spent time in the Canadian Football League (CFL) with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Bennett has played a majority of his six year career with the Nebraska Danger in the Indoor Football League.
As for the defensive side of the ball, the team returns linebacker Dontae McCoy, who lead the team by a wide margin in tackles with 102.
All in all, Bloomington is trying to put together a duplicate team of last season to try and secure their first CIF Championship.
