Teams were not looking as closely at the World rankings this week. Each had goals set for this International window and Week Two proved a point for almost all of the top tier teams.

International Test Rugby Results – Week Two

The superlatives were flowing from a handful of games with plus 50 point results: Ireland with a late rally, France making good work out of Samoa and the World Champion All Blacks returning to the winners circle.

Beside Test matches, there were a small number of friendly games, involving the Barbarians club and also the Maori All Blacks. The proud heritage of this group always make them a hard team to beat, but up against European powerhouse Munster, the tables were turned on the New Zealander’s.

But ultimately, Test rugby results re-enforce top teams standings–and very much at the top are England. In a decisive result, they succeeded with that sides first win over South Africa in a decade (amazingly).

Some very good results over the weekend and plenty of action on the field for fans to enjoy. And that is what many of these matches celebrate. Home nations welcoming touring sides to bring competition, and to advance the level of the game.

None are considered as part of a series; not in the way of a tournament or test match series, many are for pride alone. A result like Japan beating Georgia will not only re-establish the Asian nations status but also to bring International rugby to cities like Tblisi, Bucharest and Northern Ireland.

As much for the men’s game, as the women’s. While not all are listed above, the matches between England and Ireland are the beginning of incoming International sides Canada and New Zealand. The women are leading up to the 2017 Rugby World Cup, so important to sides form as much as ‘bragging rights’.

So a great weekend all around, unless you were a Scotland supporter. That close result only added flame to the fire between the Scots and Australia: the last result also being a small margin loss. But it will make the Argentina clash all the more important next week.
