From Last Word on Soccer, by Matt Pollard, Joe Hojnacki, and John Bava

(November 11, 2016) – What’s up America? Enough election talk, time to talk about the start of the CONCACAF Hexagonal. This week on Last Word SC Radio, Matt Pollard and Joe Hojnacki are joined by John Bava.

Last Word SC: MLS Cup Playoffs Recap and USA vs Mexico with John Bava

In segment one, the boys sit down and talk about the Eastern Conference Playoff results. We discuss what the Montreal Impact and Toronto FC are doing so well. We break down what went wrong for the New York Red Bulls and New York City FC. The guys discuss what both New York teams need to change in the off season. Spoiler alert: The Red Bulls are in good shape the NYCFC needs some roster massages (defense especially).

In segment two, the guys do the same thing for the Western Conference. We talk about the Seattle Sounders rolling over FC Dallas and why Dallas is going to be just fine. We discuss (briefly) the not exciting LA Galaxy series with the Colorado Rapids. The guys spit ball ideas on what could change for LA in the off season. Matt’s got a bunch of ideas (hint: Bastian Schweinsteiger), but there’s a lot of uncertainty in Carson, CA right now.

In the Round Table, Matt and Joe question John on what the off season looks like for Columbus Crew SC. Then the guys dive fully into USA vs Mexico. We discuss the current state of the U.S. Men’s National Team roster and their players. They guys discuss formation and style of play. Lastly, we do predictions.

Matt Pollard is a Featured Columnist at Last Word on Soccer and Environmental Engineer. When he’s not saving pipelines and cleaning up messes, he’s getting his butt kicked by Insanity, falling down the Rocky Mountains, or watching sports. His first sports love was the LA Kings, though MLS didn’t exist at the time. Once called the Shakespeare of LWOS, he covers the LA Galaxy, Colorado Rapids, and Saint Louis FC. Like the Galaxy, he too was handcrafted in LA.

Joe Hojnacki is managing editor of Last Word on Soccer. A lifelong resident of the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan, he supports Detroit City FC locally, Portland Timbers nationally, and Arsenal globally. He’s also a homebrewer, amateur astronomer, pathetic Detroit Lions fan and baseball nerd.
