Brooke Henderson Finds Putting Stroke, Enjoys Home Crowd Support

Cambridge, ON – It has been a whirlwind few weeks for Brooke Henderson. Canada’s best golfer, and number three in the women’s golf ranking. She played in the Rio Olympics, came home to Canadian soil to play the Canadian Pacific Open, and now the Smith’s Falls, Ontario native is playing in the closest thing she has to a hometown tournament with the Manulife LPGA Classic.

Despite boogeying the last two holes, Henderson shot a three-under par 69 in the third round. She is at six-under for the tournament. She is four shots off the current clubhouse leader, Lydia Ko, who is ten under.

Henderson felt that she played a strong round despite the bumpy finish. She also indicated that she had fun out on the course, and enjoyed the large gallery following her round. “I played awesome today, and it was a lot of fun. It’s been a little while since I felt that kind of energy and felt that I could really have an awesome score. I was five-under through 16, and had the whole crowd behind me. The crowds were amazing. Unbelievable really, I love playing in front of them. I had a lot of fun today which is kinda newer. I haven’t been enjoying it as much, but today I really enjoyed myself.”

Henderson credits her strong day to putting well. “I’ve had on and off days with my putter, but today was definitely an on. The putt on 18 was for bogey, but it really saved my entire round.”

“I turned to Britt (her sister) at one point and said it’s going to be boring when we go back to not having this kind of crowd, but it has really been so much fun to play in front of, and I just thank everybody for coming out.”
