It has been months of speculation over when when he would return.
Since announcing that he was looking for a comeback, it sounds like a Georges St-Pierre return is finally imminent.
Report: Rush to Return at UFC 206
In an interview with MMA Fighting, St. Pierre hinted that UFC 206, which takes place at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, may indeed be set for GSP’s return.
“All the stars are aligned, my friend,” St-Pierre said.
“I’m not lying to you, it’s not done yet. It’s not done at this point. We still have to talk to the new owners soon, see what they’ve gotta say.”
This should not come as a surprise to anybody who has been following this situation closely as GSP claimed earlier that he was interested in a title fight with current UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping.
“I do not believe, if I fight him (Bisping), he will send me back to a movie set. Yes, he’s bigger than me, but I believe I’ve got more skill, more athleticism, and a higher fighting IQ than he does. The world doesn’t turn around me, but if it’s a fight that the fans and the UFC want to make, they’ve got my number. They can call my agent, no problem. We can organize to make it happen and make an agreement.”
As of right now it is currently unknown who St-Pierre’s opponent would be. However with Bisping scheduled to fight Dan Henderson at UFC 204 it is highly unlikely that a GSP-Bisping fight would happen.
One name that seems to be floating out there is Nick Diaz. This would be a rematch of their first fight back at UFC 158 which took place in March 2013. The first fight saw GSP record a unanimous decision victory over Diaz.
GSP has not fought since November 2013 when he outlasted Johny Hendricks in a split decision victory.
