According to reports Belgium striker Christian Benteke is set to sign for Crystal Palace from Liverpool. Both clubs have agreed on an initial fee of £27 million plus £5 million in add-ons. The striker shall travel to London to finalize the deal with Palace, upon agreeing personal terms with the club. The Belgian international shall also become Palace’s record signing, which was previously winger Andros Townsend, who signed in July for £13 million.
Christian Benteke set for Palace switch
Falling out of favor
The Belgian moved to Liverpool for £32.5 million from Aston Villa last summer. However the striker has found himself out of the first team picture under manager Jurgen Klopp. Earlier this month Klopp acknowledged the prospect of the strikers departure from Anfield. Earlier this week Liverpool rejected a £23 million bid from Palace for the Belgian striker.
Pardew adding fire power
Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew, finds himself short of attacking options. The departures of Emmanuel Adebayor, Dwight Gayle and Marouane Chamakh left few attacking options. Furthermore the sale of Yannick Bolasie for £28 million to Everton has also provided money for the Palace boss to spend. The signing of Christian Benteke is a welcome addition to the Eagles squad, due to the lack of fire power.
Christian Benteke made 29 appearances for Liverpool, scoring nine goals in all competitions. Despite a less than successful spell at Anfield, the 25-year-old could prove a worthy signing for the South London club. The Belgian should be fitted into the side once the deal is completed.
