The Jacksonville Jaguars have been building up a solid talent base for the last few years. The receiver position is one of the more skilled groups on this roster. With that said, there are going to be some extremely difficult decisions about who makes the final roster. This group is going to have multiple players who likely catch on with other teams after cuts are made.
Jacksonville Jaguars Wide Receiver Projection
Who Will Make the Team?
Allen Robinson
This one is easy. He was one of the best young receivers in the game last year. This off-season he worked hard to take his game to the next level. Clearly, Robinson has the look of a player poised to take another step into the top three-to-five wide receivers in the game by season’s end. There aren’t many receivers in the league that can go up and get it like Robinson.
Allen Hurns
An undrafted rookie in 2014, Allen Hurns has been so much more than anyone could have hoped. He has become one of the most consistent guys on offense that Bortles can lean on. The Jaguars signed him to a four-year, $40 million contract this off-season, as they look to Robinson and Hurns for a strong one-two punch that they haven’t had since Jimmy Smith and Keenan McCardell back in the day.
Rashad Greene
A fifth-round pick out of Florida State in 2015, Rashad Greene has become one of the best punt returners in the game and showed flashes last year of being a reliable, ascending wide receiver. Most have high hopes for him this year, as many thought he was one of the steals of last year’s draft.
Marqise Lee
A forgotten man due to the way Robinson and Hurns played last year, this youngster has the talent to be right up there with them. He has had hamstring issues for much of his NFL career, but so far in training camp he’s been healthy, and he did some impressive things in the preseason opener against the Jets. If he can stay on the field, this wide receiver group is going to be even harder to stop than it already is.
Bryan Walters
The beneficiary of some injuries that occurred last year, especially to Lee and Greene, Walters took the job and ran with it. There isn’t much that is flashy about Walters’ game, but he is one of the guys you can count on to come down with it regardless of the situation. Every team needs contributors like this, and although there are some guys who offer a little more upside, this is definitely a player that needs to be held onto.
Who is Seriously in the Conversation?
Arrelious Benn
Benn was a former high draft pick that has some serious potential. He has also battled injury after injury in his NFL career. If he can stay healthy, there is potential for a very solid wideout here, and the Jaguars could look to keep him if they think he can become just that.
Tony Washington
Washington has often been a main target on the second team with Chad Henne throughout camp, and always seems to make plays. This is a player who could catch on elsewhere. The roster is just too deep at the top for him to have much of a shot to make it.
