WWE’s Tag Team division is arguably reaching its peak. Since the WWE Draft several weeks ago, the Tag Team landscape in the WWE has expanded. Both Raw and Smackdown now boast respective Tag Team divisions, thus providing leeway to redesign the division overall.
SummerSlam Preview: New Day VS The Club
For the past year WWE Tag Team Champions, The New Day have led the division. Recently becoming the longest reigning WWE Tag Team Champions in history, New Day have been the pinnacle of success. Since winning the titles last year at Summerslam the trio have endured a memorable reign as champions. Members Kofi Kingston, Big E & Xavier Woods have defended the Titles under the Freebird rule.
In late 2014, Kofi Kingston, Big E & Xavier Woods formed The New Day. Initially the WWE Universe rejected the stable due to the gimmick’s stereotype. However the stable began to transition in 2015, eventually turning heel. This was a blessing for the trio. They first captured the Tag Team Champions at Extreme Rules in 2015 and once again at Summerslam, New Day are two-time champions. Furthermore this Sunday at Summerslam, marks the one year anniversary to New Day’s reign as Tag Team Champions. Their fun loving attitude has made the group into fan favorites.
The Club
This Sunday at Summerslam, New Day shall defend their Tag Team Champions against The Club. Since debuting just after WrestleMania, Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson have been a persistent figure in the tag team division. Prior to the Draft Gallows & Anderson aligned themselves with long-time partner AJ Styles. Now The Club head into Summerslam going for gold, in the form of the WWE Tag Team Champions.
Before their arrival to WWE, Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson garnered great success in New Japan. Members of The Bullet Club alongside AJ Styles, Gallows & Anderson became the longest reigning IWGP Tag Team Champions in history. Their arrival in WWE was hardly a secret, as news quickly broke of WWE signing the duo. This Sunday is the first time The Club face New Day, head to head for the Tag Team Champions.
The Feud
This feud has truly displayed the best out of The Club. After injuring Big E a few weeks ago on Raw, Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows have established themselves as the top heels in the Tag Team division. There has also been some character development for Gallows & Anderson. This has displayed their charisma as well as their in-ring ability as a team. This feud has perfectly balanced both teams and their prowess to lead the Tag Team division, especially The Club.
Heading into Summerslam this Sunday, all pointers hint a win for The Club. Two of the top tag teams in the WWE can capably put on a great match. Gallows & Anderson are the ideal team to dethrone New Day of their reign as Tag Team Champions. In any event regardless of the victors, this bout could be Too Sweet.
