Germany defender, Shkodran Mustafi, has agreed personal terms with Arsenal according to the player’s agent.
The Gunners are now set to discuss a transfer fee with Valencia in the coming days.
Shkodran Mustafi Agrees Terms with Arsenal According to Agent
Ali Bulut, Mustafi’s representative, told German website Spox.com, “Shkodran and Arsenal are in agreement. Now the clubs just have to agree a transfer fee.”
Arsenal have moved quickly for the 24-year-old after Gabriel became the latest defender to pick up an injury in Sunday’s friendly against Manchester City. Per Mertesacker also remains on the sidelines with a knee problem, while Laurent Koscielny has been given an extended break following Euro 2016.
It leaves Arsene Wenger in a state of desperation as the Premier League kicks off this weekend. With the Mustafi deal unlikely to be completed in time, it means Arsenal may have to field young duo Callum Chambers and Rob Holding at the heart of their defence against Liverpool this Sunday.
News of the German’s imminent arrival will give Arsenal a timely boost after another quiet transfer window.
Mustafi, a World Cup winner having been part of the Germany squad in 2014, will sign after a two-year spell at Valencia. During his time in Spain, he made 78 appearances and scored six times. Prior to his €8m switch to Valencia, Mustafi built his reputation as a dependable figure at the back with Sampdoria.
Earlier in his career, the German was signed to Everton’s academy. Mustafi remained on the periphery of the first team squad, making just one appearance in the Europa League.
On his return to England, Mustafi will join up with German teammates, Mertesacker and Mesut Ozil.
