As previously reported, an injury suffered by Ben Rothwell has forced him to withdraw from his co-headlining bout against former UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum at UFC 203, and it has now be confirmed that Travis Browne will fight in his place.
As reported earlier today by MMAJunkie.com, a team representative for “Big Ben” said the longtime heavyweight stalwart “may have suffered a torn meniscus and could have an ACL injury.”
Having reeled off four straight wins, Rothwell (36-10 MMA, 6-4 UFC) had his momentum halted by Junior Dos Santos at UFC Fight Night: Rothwell vs. Dos Santos in April, losing a one-sided unanimous decision, yet could have vaulted himself into immediate title contention with a win over Werdum(20-6-1 MMA, 8-3 UFC).
Browne will look to avenge his 2014 loss to Werdum, which seen the Brazilian go on to defeat Mark Hunt for the interim belt, and subsequently dethrone Cain Velasquez, whom defeated Browne via knockout at UFC 200, only to lose the belt in his first defense to current champ Stipe Miocic.
UFC 203: Miocic vs. Overeem takes place September 10, 2016 at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio and also features the debut of former WWE star turned MMA fighter CM Punk.
