Friday night in the midst of the Olympics craze the Toronto Argonauts (4-2) will do battle with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (3-4). The Boatmen are coming off a bye after they downed the Ottawa Redblacks on the road in quarterback Logan Kilgore’s first career CFL start. Winnipeg in Week 8 looks to add on to their current two game win streak after a marathon of a game in Week 7.
Well Rested vs Battle Tested: Argos vs Bombers
What can you expect after a two-and-a-half-hour weather delay?
Winnipeg’s Week 7 win answered the question on every CFL fan’s mind that desperately needed an answer. The home team showed up to play ball and the visitors couldn’t wait to get out of dodge after all was said and done.
The Blue Bombers laid down a beating on the Hamilton Tiger-Cats to the tune of a 37-11 victory. The Tiger-Cats, despite having one of the better defences in the CFL, were walked all over by the Bombers after the game finally got started. There might be blame to the game’s delay for the poor outing by Hamilton, but Tiger-Cats quarterback Jeremiah Masoli was simply overwhelmed by the Bombers secondary, throwing three interceptions in the loss.
The first interception was returned by C.J. Roberts 19-yards for a touchdown, putting Winnipeg up 7-0 early and the other two interceptions led to Winnipeg field goals. After Roberts’ pick-six the Bombers exploded for a 34-0 lead at the halfway mark. From there all the Bombers had to do was go on cruise control taking the victory with relative ease after producing a first half shutout.

Argos looking to take back First in the East
Toronto will have had plenty of rest coming into their match Friday night. It will have been close to two weeks since their last game on July 31st as they look to get their record to 5-2. Argos Safety Thomas Gordon has been itching to get back on the field after making his debut start against the Redblacks in Week 6.

Well Rested Vs Battle Tested
The Argos took advantage of a rusty Henry Burris back in Week 6, and fast forward to Week 8 they will have to deal with an offence and defence coming off hot performances. Winnipeg quarterback Matt Nichols threw for 2 touchdowns and 246 yards, completing 74.2% of his passes last week. The Argos defence will be on high alert and the offence, led by Kilgore, will need to emphasize ball security as the Bombers have proven they’ll make you pay when the ball is turned over. How the Argos play after their bye week will set the tone for the rest of the season as they look to take first place in the highly competitive East Division.
