John Kuhn leaves Green Bay Packers, signs with New Orleans Saints

The next time you hear Kuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuhn will be in Super Dome, while the former Packer wears the hometown team’s black and gold uniform, and a fleur-de-lys on his helmet.

ESPN’s Rob Demovski, and UPI’s Alex Butler have reported that the former All-Pro fullback has signed a one-year deal with the New Orleans Saints. Monetary details have not been revealed yet.

John Kuhn had become one of the most beloved Green Bay Packers due to his hard-nose running style, special team play, and having, quite possibly, the easiest name to shout during a game.

However, according to Greg Matzek, and his source, for Radio 620-WTMJ Milwaukee (Wisconsin’s Radio Station), “the Packers have ‘moved on’ from the 33-year old full back.”

Of the players on the 2015 roster, Kuhn was tied with Mason Crosby for the second longest tenured in Green Bay. They joined the Packers nine years ago, in 2007; the only player to have been in Green Bay longer is Aaron Rodgers. However, unlike his former quarterback, Kuhn was a year-round resident in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

During his nine-year career in Green Bay, Kuhn appeared in 139 games. He rushed the ball 196 times for 601 yards, and 15 touchdowns. He also had 81 receptions, and eight receiving touchdowns.

The move by the team comes on the heels of his least productive season since 2009. However, Kuhn brought a lot more than mere stats to the table. He was a great teammate, and he knew the Packers’ offense as well as anybody. The organization seems comfortable moving forward with sixth-round pick, Aaron Ripkowski.

He also had a great relationship with Aaron Rodgers both on and off the field. The quarterback stated so himself, in an interview with ESPN Wisconsin.

Kuhn was an undrafted free agent out of Shippensburg signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2006. The next year, he signed with Green Bay. He earned three Pro Bowl nods, an All-Pro in 2014, and a Super Bowl ring in 2010.

As a very classy teammate, and person, Kuhn bid an emotional farewell message to Packer nation on his Twitter account.
