Edmonton Oilers, Winnipeg Jets to Square Off in Heritage Classic

On Friday, the National Hockey League held a press conference in Winnipeg to discuss the upcoming Heritage Classic game that will be held on October 23rd. The game will feature the Edmonton Oilers and the Winnipeg Jets. The game will be the first outdoor NHL game of the 2016-2017 season. It will be played at Investors Group Field in Winnipeg.  The two teams will battle it out on Sunday, October 23rd.  Also announced was the playing of an alumni game that will be held on Saturday, the 22nd.

Both the Oilers and Jets revealed the majority of their alumni rosters.  The Jets alumni squad will consist of Teemu Selanne, Teppo Numminen, Thomas Steen, Dave Babych, Dave Ellett, Laurie Boschman, Kris King, Brian Mullen, Bob Essensa, Mike Eagles, Mike Ford, Jim Kyte, Mario Marois, Morris Lukowich, Moe Mantha, Andrew McBain, Darrin Shannon, Doug Smail, Tim Watters and Ron Wilson. Alumni Tom McVie and Serge Savard will be behind the bench for Winnipeg.

The Oilers confirmed that Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier, Glenn Anderson, Paul Coffey, Grant Fuhr, Dave Semenko, Jari Kurri, Kelly Buchberger, Randy Gregg, Charlie Huddy, Ken Linseman, B.J. MacDonald, Craig MacTavish, Marty McSorley, Bill Ranford, Dwayne Roloson, Craig Simpson, Ryan Smyth and Esa Tikkanen will be a part of the roster. Legendary coach Glen Sather will be back behind the bench.

Throw Back Jerseys

Along with all of this, the teams revealed the jerseys they would be wearing for the game. Winnipeg throwing it back to their old school logo from the 1980’s which will be the crest of a white jersey with red and navy blue trimming.  The Oilers will be keeping their current logo but will feature it on a darker orange jersey.
