San Jose Earthquakes Acquire Darwin Ceren
Ceren has made 16 appearances for Orlando City during the 2016 season, including 14 starts. The defensive midfielder has two assists thus far. In 2015, he made 25 starts for the Lions and finished the season with two goals and two assists.
The move could be the first of two for San Jose. Fulham midfielder Jamie O’Hara has been a trialist with the team, but the Quakes could not afford to sign him for lack of a designated player slot and salary cap space. Perez Garcia’s move to Orlando City not only frees up some cap space. It also opens up the DP slot needed for San Jose to sign O’Hara.
If O’Hara were to join the club, the Quakes would be flush with midfielders. Expect a few midfielders such as Simon Dawkins and Tommy Thompson to be moved up top in forward roles for the remainder of the season.
San Jose’s next match takes place Friday night when the Quakes host New York City FC. The visitors come into the game with the Eastern Conference’s best record. Kickoff is at 8 PM PT and the game will be televised on Unimas.
