The San Jose Earthquakes traded forward Adam Jahn to the Columbus Crew for an undisclosed amount of Targeted Allocation Money (aka, Garber bucks). TAM is used to lower the cap hit of player salaries in order for teams to sign players above the salary cap. Each team has a certain amount of TAM awarded to them each year, depending on the number of designated player signings and other factors.
Earthquakes Trade Adam Jahn
This is a surprising win for the Quakes. Jahn’s major weakness was winning aerial duels, something that a 6’3″ forward needs to do. In 2016, Jahn won an average of half an aerial per game, while losing 1.2 per game for an atrocious 29% aerials won average. As a result, Jahn rarely produced on the field, accumulating just two goals since 2014.
The move will certainly set up a Quakes move for a striker. The Quakes lack offense, ranking ninth in the Western conference with just 22 goals scored this season. Jahn’s departure opens roster space that should be filled by another forward. The question now is: who will it be? Expect the announcement soon!
