Prior to Coleman having a breakout season in 2015 with the Panthers, the former special teams player was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the seventh round of the 2010 NFL Draft out of Ohio State. Coleman would spend his first four years with Philadelphia. However, he was never able to establish himself as a starter. In four years with the Eagles, Coleman racked up 221 tackles and seven interceptions.

In 2014, Coleman signed with the Minnesota Vikings, but ended up spending only a few months on the team. He was released and signed by the Kansas City Chiefs. In his only season with the Chiefs, Coleman managed only 37 tackle. He also led the team with three interceptions.

The Panthers signed the 28-year-old Coleman to a two-year deal prior to last season, and he went on to have the best year of his young NFL career in Carolina. He was also selected to his first Pro Bowl after recording 90 tackles, one sack and a career-high seven interceptions. The Panthers released a statement by Kurt Coleman after he signed his three-year extension:

It’s a blessing,” Coleman said in the statement on the Panthers website. “When you go through situations, you want what’s best for your family and what’s best for the team, and I’m really excited. I’m fortunate to be part of this team for three more years. Training camp is the beginning of a new season, and for me, now that this is out of the way, I am completely focused.”
