Detroit Lions Sign Veteran Wide Receiver Anquan Boldin
Boldin, age 35, is going into his 13th season in the NFL and is now on the move once again. His career began in 2003 after being drafted by the Arizona Cardinals in the second round (54th overall). Boldin played collegiately for Florida State.
He played in Super Bowl XLIII for the Cards against the Steelers in 2008. He then played for the Baltimore Ravens, winning Super Bowl XLVII against the San Francisco 49ers in 2012. His last move was to the team he had previously beaten in the Super Bowl, the 49ers.
In his career, he has played 186 games with a total of 13,195 receiving yards on 1,009 receptions. He has also scored a total of 74 touchdowns in his 12 seasons so far. Boldin has also been chosen to go to the Pro Bowl three times.
Notably, he is currently ranked number 17 on the all-time receiving yards list, as well as number 12 all time in receptions and tied for the number 33 spot in receiving touchdowns.
The Detroit Lions are making a smart move by signing Boldin, adding a veteran presence as Calvin Johnson has retired. He also has experience with current head coach Jim Caldwell, who was the quarterbacks coach and then offensive coordinator of the Baltimore Ravens when Boldin was playing there.
Boldin was brought to Detroit to work out back in June, but the Lions did not decide to sign him then, until they were for sure of their reciever situation.
As far as his roster position, he will likely be playing behind the main receivers Marvin Jones and Golden Tate. Boldin will be competing with the other receivers for a spot on the depth chart.
