Jason Day Bounces Back in Round 3 of Canadian Open

Oakville, ON – After a difficult second round where he shot a four-over par 76, Jason Day bounced back with a three-under par 69 on Saturday at the RBC Canadian Open. Day felt he had a promising start in the first round of the tournament, but felt he shot himself out of the tournament on Friday. Day indicated that getting things back on track was good for his confidence heading into next week’s PGA Championship. He finished the round draining a 19-foot putt for eagle on the 18th hole to leave him tw0-under par for the tournament.

“It was a very stress free 69 today, and I like that kind of stuff. Tomorrow’s round is very important for me to play well, especially heading into next week’s last major championship. Hopefully, it gives me a boost of confidence heading into that week.” Day mused after his round.

Day talked about using the last two round of the weekend to get ready for the PGA.

“You’ve got to play well heading into next week’s tournament. Where is the state of my game? Today was a step in the right direction, coming back to shoot 69 after a poor round yesterday. If I can improve on that tomorrow, I should feel pretty good about my game.”

Day, the current number one ranked golfer in the world talked about the fact that current number two, Dustin Johnson, is sitting atop the leaderboard.  Johnson was set to begin his third round, just as Day was finishing up.

In terms of following Johnson’s pursuit of the top spot in the rankings, Day indicated, “I’m not (following him) right now, because I cant control what he does, unfortunately. I wish I could (laughter). Yeah, I can’t control what he does. I mean it’s definitely on me for what I did yesterday. I played great Thursday. Played good today. Obviously the second round kind of shot me out of the tournament right now. But you never know what happens tomorrow.”

“If I can’t win this week, I’d much rather win next week.”
