The Iowa Barnstormers have announced the resignation of second year Head Coach Joe Brannen.

The Iowa Barnstormers have announced the resignation of second year Head Coach Joe Brannen.

“The Iowa Barnstormers have accepted the resignation of Head Coach Joe Brannen, President Jeff Lamberti and Vice President/Chief Operating Officer John Pettit announced today.”

“On behalf of the entire Iowa Barnstormers organization, we thank Joe Brannen for his efforts over the past two seasons,” said Lamberti. “Brannen will always be part of the Barnstormers family and we wish him the best in his future endeavors.” – Press Release.

In a post on Facebook, the coach publicized his departure:

The Barnstormers will begin a nation-wide search to replace Brannen, who won only a single game out of his final 11 as a head coach.

Brannen started with the Iowa Barnstormers organization when he came in as a backup quarterback to Brian Villanueva. Brannen eventually started for the Barnstormers, but never lead the team to a winning season. His first season with Iowa in 2015 ended with a 6-8 record during the team’s first year in the Indoor Football League.

However, 2016 was a different beast for Brannen, one too big for him to handle. After a 3-1 start, the Barnstormers ended the season with a 1-11 record in their final 12 games, finishing at 4-12.

Although, the team did include that they would remain in the IFL for their third year, in their press release.

While Joe Brannen will not be leading the 2017 team, the Iowa Barnstormers look forward to the next season in the IFL. Announcements regarding the 2017 season’s schedule will be released in the coming months. – Press Release.

The Barnstormers 2017 opponents, game times, and now a new Head Coach will be announced soon, so it definitely will not feature many slow news days.

The IFL, however, is always looking at new teams to come into the league, as talked about further here, on who the Barnstormers might face next season.
