Chase Briscoe Earns 2nd Straight ARCA Win, Dominates Points

Chase Briscoe earned his second straight ARCA Racing Series win in Saturday’s ABC Supplies 150 at Iowa Speedway, effectively taking command of the Points lead. Briscoe led 63 laps in a dominating performance

“It is pretty special, because I did not ever think I would ever be here,” Briscoe said. “It’s a testament to how good of race cars [Cunningham] brings. I’ve never been to any of these tracks so I feel like I lack a lot of the time behind the seat.”

Briscoe would end up battling Kyle Benjamin on the final restart, making a bold move to choose the inside line, even though the high side of the track was working better. The points leader said after the race that the bottom would work for about five laps before drivers would start making their way to the high line. So Briscoe would take the first corner on the inside, and clear Benjamin by the next time they crossed the start/finish line.

But Briscoe might have been battling a different driver if the race had more than just two cautions.

After passing Benjamin on lap 41, Kyle Weatherman looked like he might run away with the event, had it stayed green all the way through. However, Weatherman cut a tire on lap 88, bringing out the race’s first yellow flag.

“It’s disappointing,” Weatherman said. “I felt like we had the car to beat tonight. Nothing I could do when the right-front went down. My guys on pit road did an excellent job getting us back out so we didn’t lose a lap, but the car wouldn’t handle after that.”

The win puts Briscoe unofficially ahead by 285 points to 2nd place, Josh Williams, in the standings.

“It’s definitely cool that we went back-to-back, when we battle for a points championship that’s what you have got to do, so hopefully we can do a three-peat at Indy. That would be pretty special.”
