Loui Eriksson Signs With Vancouver Canucks

Veteran forward Loui Eriksson has signed a six-year contract with the Vancouver Canucks worth $6 million per season. His contract will see him likely playing with the Sedin Twins. Eriksson spent the first seven years of his NHL career playing for the Dallas Stars and the last three with the Boston Bruins, racking up 504 career points, with 63 of them coming last year with the Bruins.

Throughout his ten year career Eriksson has been a solid first or second line forward for both Dallas and Boston, and will likely continue that trend for the next few years, as he is only set to turn 31 this year. Coming off the back of a season in which he scored 30 goals and had 63 points, he has done more than enough to earn the salary he’s being offered in his new contract. Despite his impressive season, it wasn’t enough to help the Bruins finish the season strong enough to get a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but they surely appreciated the point output he was able to muster.

Eriksson is coming off the back of a six-year/$25.5 million contract that he originally signed with the Dallas Stars before the 2010-11 season. Since he signed the deal with the Stars back in 2010 he has had no less than 29 points in a season, and that was in 48 games during the 2012-13 season, and other than that he has had at least 37 points, which came in 61 games in his first season with the Bruins. Eriksson was the second round pick, 33rd overall, of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft by the Dallas Stars.
