Away with the days of the ‘million dollar man’.
Andrew Luck has signed his contract extension with the Indianapolis Colts’. Which, as many expected has made him the NFL’s Highest Paid Player. The six year, $140 million mega-deal sees Luck eclipse the earnings of Super Bowl winners Aaron Rodgers, Joe Flacco and Russell Wilson among others.
$140 million Mega Contract makes Andrew Luck NFL’s Highest Paid Player
The deal pays Luck $75 million over the first three years, and a cool $23.3 million in 2016. This is a huge amount of money to pay a quarterback who has yet to have taken the Colts to the grandest stage of all; however, the size of the contract does show the front office in Indianapolis still have tremendous faith in Luck’s ability, and also his leadership skills.
Jim Irsay reiterated his faith in Luck, as he said in a statement that ‘Andrew possesses extraordinary talent… and with (him) under center, you cannot help but be thrilled about the future’.
Luck is coming off of an underwhelming season following a string of incapacitating injuries, however with the lacerated kidney fully healed, and Luck himself promising he will be more careful with his body, Indianapolis’ offense looks to be back to its explosive best in 2016.
Hopefully for the Colts, an immediate upturn in form next season will show the NFL why he’s worth so much money. If his side follow any positive trends they set next year, there’s no reason why Luck can’t deliver a ring to the Irsay family by 2021.
