EFL Fixture Release: 2016/2017 Cardiff City Key Matches

The Bluebirds – and Paul Trollope’s – first match of the 2016/2017 season is away to Birmingham City on Saturday 6th August, who they played at the Cardiff City Stadium in their final game of the 2015/2016 season. The score finished 1-1 with one of last seasons most improved players – Anthony Pilkington – netting the equaliser.

The final game of the season will come against Huddersfield Town – another away trip – on Sunday 7th May

The first home game follows on Saturday 13th August when Queens Park Rangers visit the CCS. The result last season was 0-0 as the Bluebirds play-off hopes began to fade.

The eagerly anticipated home games against rivals such as Leeds United (Saturday 17th September), Bristol City (Saturday 15th October) will hope to draw in the crowds that dwindled dramatically last season.

The biggest teams – recently relegated – Aston Villa and Newcastle United travel to the CCS on Monday 2nd January and Saturday 29th April respectively, with both teams looking to return the Premier League at the first attempt.

The Christmas fixtures come against Brentford (Away) on Monday 26th December, against Brighton and Hove Albion (Away) on Saturday 31st December.

With over half of the league looking for promotion and some huge clubs occupying the EFL Championship, it’s clear Cardiff City will have to get off to a flying start to build some momentum in what will prove to be a tough season.
