Dallas Cowboys Running Back Darren McFadden Breaks Elbow

Cowboys running back Darren McFadden broke his elbow in an accident during Memorial day weekend and will miss a couple months.

Dallas Cowboys running back Darren McFadden has broken his elbow, head coach Jason Garrett announced. He will miss “a couple months” with the injury. This clears the path for rookie running back Ezekiel Elliot to win the #1 running back position on the team.

The injury comes one day after McFadden said he wasn’t worried with competing with Elliot for the top spot. Now, Elliot will have a chance to show the Cowboys what he is really made of during mandatory minicamps. The rookie rushed for over 1,800 yards in his last two seasons at the Ohio State University.
FOX Sports is reporting that the Cowboys have said the elbow injury occurred to due a cell phone incident. According to the report, he was trying to save his cell phone from falling when he fell on his elbow during Memorial Day Weekend.
He practiced all week with the injury, not telling the team at all. An X-Ray revealed that the elbow was fractured. McFadden underwent surgery to repair the fracture.
The Cowboys will hope to have him back as soon as possible, as he was fifth in the leading in rushing last season with 1,089 yards.
The 1,089 yards was the second most in a season in McFadden’s career – he ran for 1,157 yards in 2010 with the Oakland Raiders.
The Cowboys also have running back Alfred Morris, who was with the Washington Redskins from 2012 until last season.
During his time in Washington, he rushed for 4,713 yards and 29 touchdowns. His career high in rushing came in his rookie season in 2012, when he rushed for 1,613 yards. That was also the year he reached his career high in touchdowns with 13. He is projected to be the Cowboys’ third quarterback once McFadden returns.
Garrett hopes for him to be ready to go for training camp and he will no doubt be ready for the Cowboys season opener on Sept. 11 against the New York Giants.
